Isusuka na kita!
“Kaya nga, sapagkat ikaw ay maligamgam, hindi malamig o mainit, isusuka na kita mula sa aking bibig.”
”So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”
-Revelations 3:16 (Ang Salita Ng Diyos, NIV)
I just remembered this verse and asked some of my friends how could have Jesus said that. One commented, maybe because they already knew the truth and yet they are not doing anything about it.
Jesus said things like ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ (Matthew 7:23:)
It seems justifiable for a normal person to agree with what Jesus said here, whether that person is a believer or not. Punishing evildoers is in the basic DNA of human morality.
But why would Jesus who is God, a God of love, say this to a church? Thinking about what my friend said and using it in an analogy really helped me understand.
Imagine yourself standing somewhere and you saw a child walking on a railroad. And with so much ignorance the child did not bother that a train is going straight at her.
Seeing this, would you just sit, watch and do nothing? Or would you SHOUT?
If you know the truth of someone’s destiny apart from Christ, would you just sit and wait to die or throw your life to the mission of sharing the good news or gospel to everyone around you?
People who don’t believe in Jesus don’t know anything about His light, because they are blind. But for those who saw His light, it is just unbearable not to share it to those who will perish in the darkness.
So the main reason why Jesus really said that is for love. The same way, love is our main reason why we have to do something.
For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.
